Three Perfect Days for Family Vacations at The Broadmoor
After a year of school, sports, extracurricular activities and running from one place to another, summer is the perfect time for families to reconnect while on vacation.
Sometimes, even the smallest things can create a lifetime impression, and at The BROADMOOR, we know how to help. Here are suggestions from The BROADMOOR Concierge that will help you on your way to a fun-filled Colorado family vacation...
Day One: Getting Acquainted
Breakfast on the outdoor patio of Charles Court. Enjoy buffet breakfast or order off the menu while watching the sun rise over Cheyenne Lake.
Tennis Everyone! From an hour to a full day, our tennis program offers children and family lessons, as well as camps throughout the summer.
Call the Tennis Shop for details and to receive a summer brochure.
Get Wet. Our 11,000-square-foot outdoor infinity pool and "Slide Mountain" waterslide are great options for a first day. Enjoy lunch poolside, too. Cabanas are available for a great "home base," and there is a kiddie pool with a waterspout for the wee ones. Don't forget the sunscreen!
Visit the Carriage Museum. Located across the street from the hotel in Broadmoor Hall is an amazing, and free, museum that houses an incredible array of historic carriages, cars and American memorabilia belonging to Broadmoor founders Spencer and Julie Penrose. It's a must-see for everyone and tours are free, too! Open daily.
Dine Any Time. Whether you are in tennis clothes, golf or even pool attire, the Golf Club Dining Room is a terrific option. It is a family-friendly restaurant with an outdoor firepit, and you can even make s'mores!
Day Two: Outdoor Adventures
A hearty breakfast at the Lake Terrace Dining Room is a perfect way to start your day of vacation fun and adventure with your family. If it's Sunday, you can experience Sunday Brunch, voted by the Travel Channel as one of the best in the country!
Take a Picnic with You. Before you explore, stop by Espresso or Café Julie and pick up a box lunch or sandwiches to go.
You're at the Top of the World on the Cog Railway. Located just 15 minutes away in Manitou Springs is the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. This trip takes you to the 14,000-foot summit of "America's Mountain," where you can experience some of the grandest views around, and also try the High Altitude Doughnuts!
Spare Change? Manitou Springs has one of the greatest family activities around: an original penny arcade. From games dating back to the 1920s to the most modern of video games, the Manitou Arcade offers hours of family fun!
One More Summit - this one is for dinner. Take the family to Summit. Located in BROADMOOR Hall near the Carriage Museum, an early dinner at this American brasserie is fun for the taste buds, as well as for the eyes.
Day Three: As You Like It
Breakfast in Bed. It's your last day of vacation so get it started slowly. Stay in your PJs and order room service with your family. You deserve it.
Get up close and personal with the giraffes at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo! Don't forget to take a Skyride over the new Rocky Mountain Wild exhibit while you enjoy the highest altitude zoo in the U.S. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a one-of-a-kind experience you'll never forget! Take a hotel shuttle for free!
How do you wrap up your Rocky Mountain family adventure? How about a horseback trail ride inside the Pike National Forest? One- or two-hour wilderness rides are just 20 minutes from The BROADMOOR. The trails provide mountain views from deep forest to panoramic overlooks of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region. Your guide will lead you on the ride of your life over trails of western beauty, where you may see deer, wild turkey, or fox. On the ranch itself you can see elk and bison.
Enjoy dinner at the Tavern with a variety of prime steaks and fish. The kids' menu offers everything from spaghetti to brick oven-baked pizza, hamburgers and even junior prime rib. Make sure to ask your waitperson about the Tavern's history, too!
End the Day in the Little Theatre at The BROADMOOR. Bring your own snacks from Espresso and enjoy a current movie without having to leave the resort.
But wait! There's so much more! There's the Bug Museum, the Money Museum, rafting, fly fishing, hiking, biking, waterfalls to see, and art classes to take. Contact our Children's Concierge to find out information about seasonal camp programs, The Bee Bunch, babysitting services and more activities for the whole family. There are spa services available too at The Spa at The BROADMOOR offering a variety of spa services for children, tweens and teens.
