The BROADMOOR's Green Initiatives are an important step in preserving the earth's natural resources.

Golf Courses

The BROADMOOR golf courses are certified Audubon Sanctuaries, which recognize the highest level in environmental policies. Over 50 acres of maintained turf grass have been converted to native grass lands and wildflower areas.

Water and Electricity Reduction

In addition to an aggressive recycling program, the hotel's latest environmental contribution includes an $800,000 project to convert 30,000 light fixtures to compact fluorescents, cold cathode fluorescents and LED's. The positive environmental impact is enormous reducing electrical consumption by over 5,300,000 kWh annually. Over 9,000 barrels of crude oil and 2,500 tons of coal will not be burned by electric power plants because of this Policy, equivalent to eliminating pollution from 750 cars per year.

The hotel has removed seven evaporation and mechanical cooling systems throughout the complex during an upgrade to The Central Plant. The project has contributed to a major reduction in water and electricity usage.

A state-of-the-art Energy Management System was designed and implemented which enables the hotel to control lighting, heating, cooling systems, space temperatures, demand cycling and many life safety functions throughout the resort. This system ensures that all mechanical systems operate in the most efficient manner possible.
