Spencer Julie Penrose Image

Our Centennial Celebration continues with the love story of our founders, Spencer and Julie Penrose. What better month than February to learn of their unusual meeting, his unconventional proposal and their shared vision of creating a destination resort of refinement and elegance; one where “European elegance meets Western hospitality.”   No two people had bigger ideas, and the heart to carry them out.

Featured Cocktail - Sazerac

Originating from the Sazerac Apothecary in New Orleans, this cocktail stems from the combination of the import of French spirits through the port of New Orleans, and the ingenuity of Antoine Peychaud, who created the “medicinal” bitters that bear his name to this day. Raise a glass to The Big Easy!

Fun Fact

The most successful party at the Hotel in 1953 was the “Circus Ball” held Valentine’s night. The three-ring affair took over the entire mezzanine floor and lasted into the wee hours. There were tumblers, dancers, entertainment, and “scandalous exhibitions”. Over $2,000.00 in profits from the party went to the scholarship fund of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.
