Russ Miller: Director of Golf
Russ Miller joined The Broadmoor as Director of Golf in May, 1998 after serving for seven years as Director of Golf at Landfall Club in Wilmington, North Carolina. A professional with vast experience, Miller oversees all golf-related activities at The Broadmoor including tournament management, instructional programs, membership activities, staff training, retail operations, as well as course restoration projects.
Mr. Miller is a member of the Professional Golfer's Association, with a class A rating, and was the recipient of the 2000, 2001, 2003, amd 2012 Colorado PGA Merchandiser of the Year Award, the 2003 P.G.A National Merchandiser of the Year Award, and the Colorado Hall of Fame award for Golf Person of the Year in 2004 and 2009. He has utilized his golf expertise by serving on various committees of the PGA and has been involved in hosting such events as well as the 1998 PGA Cup Matches at The Broadmoor and the Shell's Wonderful World of Golf at both Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City and Querencia Golf Club in Los Cabos, Mexico. Mr. Miller oversaw the 2008 United States Senior Open, and the 2011 United States Women's Open, held at The Broadmoor.
Mr. Miller holds a degree in Marketing and Professional Golf Management from Ferris State University in Michigan. He was a member of the university's golf team for three years as well as team captain.
Mark Kelbel: Head Golf Professional
Mark Kelbel came to Colorado Springs from Michigan where he served for seven years as Head Professional at the Grand Hotel Golf Club on Mackinac Island. One of four golf professionals in his family, Mr. Kelbel began working in the golf business at his father's pro shop. He apprenticed for three years at Hole-in-the-Wall Golf Club, and in 1994 Mr. Kelbel taught golf in Germany for a season. He has instructed numerous celebrities including Branford Marsalis, the late Don Knotts and Tip O'Neil, as well as many other governors and U.S. senators. After graduating from Michigan State University, where he received his degree in Advertising, Mr. Kelbel was honored by the PGA for being in the top 2% of his business school. This recognition helped to achieve his PGA Class A rating. Mr. Kelbel has been a member of the PGA since 1993. In addition to his duties as Head Golf Professional, he is very involved in worldwide charities and working with China on joint golf events.
Fred Dickman: Director Golf Course Maintenance
Fred Dickman joined The Broadmoor in June, 1997 as Director of Golf Course Maintenance. Dickman has over 20 years of experience in golf course maintenance, construction, and renovation.Before joining The Broadmoor, Dickman was Head Golf Course Superintendent at The Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona and consulted on golf maintenance operations for other ITT Sheraton properties. He directed construction of The Phoenician and other courses in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.
He has been a Certified Golf Course Superintendent since 1996 and an active member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, and Rocky Mountain Golf Course Superintendent Association. He is also an Audubon International Colorado State Steward. In 2008, he was awarded the Rocky Mountain Superintendent of the year. His tournament experience includes the 2008 U.S. Senior Open and 1998 PGA Cup matches held at The Broadmoor, Shell's Wonderful World of Golf at Querencia Golf Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and several PGA Senior Tour Championships at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City, OK.
Dickman holds a degree in Communications from Indiana University and was a recipient of the Western Golf Association Evans Scholarship. He also attended the Agri-Business program at Arizona State University.
