The Broadmoor Hotel’s White Lights Ceremony has been an iconic holiday celebration in Colorado Springs for thirty years. Whether the ceremony has been a part of your holiday routine for three decades, or you will be trying it out for the first time this year, here are some facts about the event you will love:

We sat down to talk with Jason Campbell, Head Curator of the Penrose Heritage Museum, to find out more about the history behind the first Hill Climb and the backstory behind this iconic photo of Spencer Penrose.

In 1915 Spencer Penrose had an ambitious vision of turning Pikes Peak into a large tourist attraction for all travelers coming to Colorado Springs. He requested permission from the Secretary of Agriculture to reestablish a toll road to the summit of Pikes Peak. Penrose's request for $283,000 was granted and by the completion of the project in 1915 he spent $500,000 to upgrade the original carriage route so it could be used by automobiles.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing activity to supplement a day full golf or simply for a break between meetings, The Penrose Heritage Museum here at The Broadmoor is a great place to visit. This is especially true with its recent addition of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb museum.

The third Sunday in June is dedicated to the special men we call "Father".  Since the holiday was first declared back in 1972, families find many ways to celebrate through special activities, gifts, and dining.  At The Broadmoor we recognize the importance of these influential gentlemen, and offer a multitude of ways to show Dad how much he means.
