The Broadmoor: Gateway to the American West
In 1917, Arthur Chapman published a book of verse. One poem in particular became a favorite of The Broadmoor’s founder, Spencer Penrose. You can find it on a plaque outside the front doors of Broadmoor Main. “Out where the handclasp's a little stronger; out where the smile dwells a little longer; that’s where the West begins.”
To celebrate Mr. Penrose’s vision of creating more than just a resort, but designing a true destination, this month learn about the unusual history of Cloud Camp, built atop Cheyenne Mountain, and The Ranch at Emerald Valley, once called Camp Vigil and the site of many rustically elegant parties in its heyday.
