How We Do Business

The Broadmoor’s Service Culture

At The Broadmoor, we strive to deliver an unrivaled meeting experience through exceptional service and the warm, gracious manner of our staff. This authenticity can be felt in everything we do at The Broadmoor, and stems from 16 core service standards that have made us the longest-running consecutive winner of both the AAA Five-Diamond and Forbes Five-Star awards. Our goal is and has always been to go above and beyond your expectations in every area of service at our historic Colorado Springs resort.

When it comes to executing successful Colorado conventions, meetings, and special events - our extraordinary staff is our greatest asset. The Broadmoor employs more than 2,800 staff members from 23 countries. Of those, over 120 employees are members of our revered Pioneer Club, which means they have been part of The Broadmoor family for over 25 years.

To ensure this legacy of service continues, The Broadmoor offers more than 40 customized classes to employees that not only teach the basics of hospitality, but the standards set forth by both the Forbes Travel Guide and the American Automobile Association (AAA) for Five-Star and Five-Diamond service. Every new team member receives over 175 hours of training in their first year alone and while the standards are complex, the basics are simple: exceed the expectations of every guest, both internal and external.

Social Responsibility
For nearly 100 years, The Broadmoor has strongly believed that being involved in our community is not only the right thing to do, but it's also good business. Year after year, The Broadmoor continues to show our gratitude and commitment to the Colorado Springs region by being actively involved in community programs and eco-friendly initiatives designed to help make our world a little brighter. A small sample of these activities include:

  • Pikes Peak United Way Campaign - The Broadmoor has seen a 239% increase in donations to the Pikes Peak United Way Campaign over the last several years. Nearly 80% of what is donated comes directly from employee payroll contributions.
  • Build-A-Bike - Every holiday season, The Broadmoor team comes together and builds bikes to give away to needy children in the community.
  • Make a Difference Month - The Broadmoor participates annually in Make a Difference Month, which is a nationwide volunteer initiative organized by Pikes Peak United Way and Volunteer Pikes Peak.
  • Community Races - The Broadmoor participates in community races on a regular basis as walkers/runners or as a sponsor. Recent races include: Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure", American Diabetes Association "Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes", and the March of Dimes "March for Babies"
  • Volunteer Events - Teams from around the properties regularly volunteer their time serving local organizations such as The Marin House, The Arc and Habitat for Humanity.

Green Initiatives
Respecting and protecting The Broadmoor's unique natural surroundings affects every aspect of how we run our historic Colorado Springs luxury resort. From water and electricity reduction and resort-wide recycling programs to the products we carry in our retail shops, The Broadmoor's Green Initiatives are an important step in preserving the Colorado Spring's natural beauty and vital resources.

Broadmoor Farms

Nestled between the famous fairways of The Broadmoor Championship Golf Course lies, our own Broadmoor Farms.  With more than 84 different vegetables, herbs, ornamental and edible flowers, we have the true opportunity to serve our guests from Mountaintop to Tabletop.  Broadmoor Farms utilizes heirloom seeds and takes the utmost care to grow Organic, Pesticide and Chemical free produce.  The greenhouse and garden concept was spurred on by the original vision from Spencer Penrose and we are honored to be stewards of his legacy.

Electricity Use Reduction
The Broadmoor houses a state-of-the-art Energy Management System that controls lighting, heating, temperature and many additional functions throughout the resort in the most efficient manner possible.

Golf Courses
Our championship golf courses are certified Audubon Sanctuaries, which recognize the highest level in environmental policies.

Water Conservation
All irrigation systems have been updated to reduce flow and overall water usage. Toilets in all guest rooms have been converted to low-flow and showers are flow-restricted. Display fountains only run during restricted hours and are recirculating. The Main Pool has a state-of-the-art back wash system.

Waste and Recycling
Appropriate receptacles for paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, and refuse metal recycling are located throughout the property. Inspection and employee training on these procedures has been conducted by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. A group of employees designated as the Conservation and Recycling Committee is in place to oversee all of the resorts recycling activities.

Food & Beverage
The Broadmoor is one of the top sourcers of organic, locally-grown produce from Arkansas Valley Organic Growers and Venetucci Farms. All used cooking grease is stored in drums and then recycled into bio-diesel. Food used for large banquets and buffets that requires no additional heating or is packaged is donated to the local Marian House Soup Kitchen. Food that requires heating is repurposed and served in The Broadmoor Employee Café at an affordable price.

Grounds and Landscaping
The Grounds Department is currently participating in an experimental greenhouse program that reduces the amount of plastic potting used and recycles the plastic that is. Insect control is accomplished using specific species of insects and nematodes along with the most beneficial and environmentally friendly insecticides specific to each flower bed. All lawns are mowed with mulchers that return clippings to the ground for natural decomposition. Natural deer repellents in the form of rosemary and peppermint are planted to keep the animals away from flower beds.
